Nathan Entwistle

Dad of two · designer and developer · builds TrailFox

I'm Nathan. I live in West Lancashire with Jessica and our two, aged 3 and 1. I run OakFox, a small design and development studio, and I build the TrailFox app.

Why I built TrailFox

Most days our kids didn't need a big day out. They needed twenty minutes outside. But the ideas we found online all seemed to need planning, a long drive or a bag of kit, and none of that happens at half past three on a Tuesday.

I wanted something that would tell us what to do the moment we were out of the door, so I built it, and Jessica tested it on our two as it came together.

It's the second app I've made for our family. The first was CubTrack, a baby tracker I built in time for our second's newborn weeks, and I write the guides on its blog too.

Getting outside

I've spent more than 15 years in brand and web design, which mostly means sitting down. So weekends are for getting out. I hike when I can, I volunteer on local conservation projects, and most weekends we're somewhere green as a family.

What I'm not

I'm not a teacher, an early years practitioner or a forest school leader. I'm a dad sharing what works for our family outdoors, and what doesn't.

How my posts are written

Jessica and I aren't writers, so we use AI to help us write and structure the posts. We pick the topics, try every activity with our own two, and edit each post ourselves before it goes live. There's more on that on our About page.
